It was a mixed night for Grougha at Dundalk on Friday night but I was happy with the efforts of Alfirak in the closer. He looked the winner when they turned for home but he just ran out of petrol in the closing stages. Perhaps it was the wide draw that cost him but he still managed to sneak a bit of prize money for the Galaxy Racing Syndicate in 5th.
We were trying Dance Alone over this trip again as an experiment and a slow start meant he was always on the back foot. He just couldn’t get into the race for Stephen Mooney and hopefully things go better for him next time. Crimping at least showed more than her last run in the claimer but she was still a bit disappointing and she remains a work in progress.
Tomorrow we are off to Leopardstown with Mokhalad and you can read Damian’s thoughts on his chances below…
If ever a horse deserved a change of luck it is Mokhalad and hopefully, he gets a rub of the green in this 7f handicap at 3.40pm. At least he has a better draw today in stall 3 and hopefully Rory Cleary is able to get him into a decent position early. Last week he just found himself too far back for Nathan Crosse and I thought he did well to make up as much ground as he did in the last couple of furlongs.
I couldn’t be happier with the condition of the horse and he came out of last week’s race very well. He also ran a very nice race on ground that was far too heavy for him at Limerick and if things go his way on Saturday I think he has a decent chance of picking up some more prize money for Galaxy Racing. Fingers crossed he runs a big race and most importantly of all comes home safe.
