Unfortunately, Crimping ran no sort of race for us last week at Dundalk and we will have to go back to the drawing board. She definitely has the ability and hopefully, she shows us something at the track soon. It was a quiet week on the racing front at Grougha Stables and we are itching to get back into action at Dundalk on Friday night. We have a trio of runners, including stable star Geological and you can read Damian’s thoughts on their chances below.
My first runner on Friday night goes in the seven-furlong handicap at 6.30 and Stephen Mooney will ride Confident Kid. Although he finished well beaten at Navan a couple of weeks ago I was still pretty happy with the run as he travelled well for a long way. I think he should come on for that run fitness wise and I am dropping him back in trip too. From a nice draw in stall 5, I think he has a decent chance of picking up some prize money for the Confident Kid Syndicate.
Geo ran a lovely race a fortnight ago in a four-way finish when he was just denied by subsequent l’Abbey fifth Lost Treasure. Geological faces another Ballydoyle 3yo tonight in Royal Navy Warship and it isn’t too often you see a horse from that yard racing off a mark of 69. Stephen Mooney’s 10lb claim will be a big help off top weight and he gets on very well with Geo. I think he is my best chance of a winner on the night.
I was very happy with how Red Avenger ran at Naas last time as Rory reported he was a bit short of room late on and he wasn’t beaten too far at all. Red is probably one of the classiest horses in the yard but does need things to fall his way on occasion. All I know is that he seems to be very well in himself at home and there is no better jockey at getting the best out of him than Rory Cleary. If Red Avenger puts his best hoof forward and gets luck in running, I think he can run a big race.
